We get asked this question frequently enough.
Our most common answer is — “That depends on your needs.”
No one –needs– a CMS just because they have a website. You need a CMS because you have a need for multiple authors, multiple levels of authorization or a media management tool.
Some CMS’s come with a lot of features — some of which you may not need — and others come with the ability to add new features. Some come with a massive user install base and others come with — or you can buy — a support package.
“That depends on your needs.”
If you want a website with only a few pages and are comfortable with a bit of HTML and want to update your own content, then no you do not need a CMS, we can easily design a site that will incorporate all of the features you want and give you simple pages to edit.
If you want a website that is fairly small but has a database or some sort of data related content, chances are you dont need a CMS for that either, we can create a simple non-CMS site and build the database and front-end separately.
So if you want to ask us, if you need a CMS, first ask yourself what you want your site to be able to do. Once you know that, the decision will be a lot easier. Email us with your site’s expectations and we’ll get back to you with a quote based on your needs.
